You can hike Rysy from two different countries. The first country you can hike from is Zakopane, Poland which is more of a difficult hike or you can hike from Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia which is an easier hike to the top.

The hike starts at Popradské pleso which is a lake in the High Tatras, the only way to get to Popradské pleso is by feet from Štrbské Pleso this hike is 4 km and takes around 45 minutes to an hour. When you get to Popradské pleso you will have the opportunity to enjoy the view with a meal at a cottage. The hike from Popradské pleso to the summit is 6 km with a elevation gain of 1065 meters, this hike takes around 3 to 5 hours. Both of the hikes is a total of 10 km and takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes to 6 hours one-way.

Gerlachovský štít

Gerlachovský štít with its altitude of 2655 m is the highest peak of the High Tatras and the whole of Slovakia. It is located in the southeast of Zadní Gerlachovské štít, from which it is separated by Gerlachovské sedlo. From the top, the ridge continues to Kotlový štít, where it branches off and creates the famous Gerlachov boiler. Gerlachovský štít is one of the most visited peaks due to its height, accessibility and beautiful mountain scenery. Hiking to Gerlachovský štít is only allowed with a mountain guide.

Hikes start early in the morning – at 6am in spring and autumn, at 5am in the summer.

Furkotská Dolina

The Mlynická Dolina to Furkotská Dolina loop is an amazing hiking trail in the High Tatras. It takes you through the Mlynicka Valley, where you’ll see the beautiful Skok waterfall, charming mountain tarns and some of the best panoramic views out there. This strenuous hike leads you through the Bystra Lavka saddle, where you need to use your hands and chains to get to the other side of the mountain range into the Furkotska Valley.

The Mlynická Dolina to Furkotská Dolina loop hike starts in Štrbské Pleso. The hike is 16.5 km long and takes around 5.5 – 7 hours

Zelené Pleso

The Zelené Pleso hike is one of the most beautiful hikes in the High Tatras, Slovakia. You will hike over a beautiful mountain ridge, down a magical mountain valley to find the magical Zelené Pleso Lake (Green Lake) and its traditional Mountain Chalet. After resting at the chalet, you will continue through an old pine forest, immersing yourself deep into the woods before you come back to the starting point.

The Zelené Pleso hike is 20.2 km long and starts in Tatranská Lomnica. The hike takes around 6.5 – 8 hours to complete and has a altitude difference of 1,393 meters.
